Hi, I’m Tom, and you’ve just found my blog.
I’m an illustrator, designer and photographer. I live in Brighton where I have my studio.
My illustration style is pen and ink drawing, with a varying amount of scratch and splatter. I add colour and texture to my drawings with watercolour and mouse. I do a lot of visualisation work, and I’m also very in to editorial illustration and book illustration, and no one was more surprised than me when I was asked to turn stories written by children into comic strips.
I am available for private commissions, my particular niche is drawings of people’s surroundings, town or country, urban or natural. If you’d like a drawing of your home or hometown, or indeed anything else, please get in touch. You can see some examples of this type of work by selecting Commissions from the drop down menu under Post Categories to the right.
One of my passions in life is music, and especially watching live bands, so combining this with my love for taking photos was a no brainer. This kind of led me on to working on film sets as a stills and reportage photographer. As drawn out as the process of film production can be, and quite the opposite of the glamour it is often misconstrued as I really enjoy the atmosphere on set. My strengths in this kind of photography come in being able to melt into the background, and get shots that nobody expected.
I also love food: cooking it, eating it and photographing it. I spent a lot of time in my early career around food working for various catering and events companies, and this is something that has really stayed with me in my photography.
I hope you enjoy reading my posts on a variety of things, and if you want to see more of my work you can head to my website: tomwatsonillustration.com. We can chat on Twitter if you like too. Look just down below to the right.
